I've managed to finish the installation of a set of Denali S4 auxiliary lights on my Transalp, fully integrated with the bike's commands, without additional switches on the handle bar. I've tried them at night time. They're excellent!
I'm attaching a diagram for better understanding. Some pics later...
As some of you might know, some of the Denali pods have 2 intensities, 50 and 100% brightness, and you can sync this last one with the bike's full beam.
To do so, Denali offer 3 solutions:
1. DataDim Controller
- most basic, works with a harness, you can opt to use a switch for the full beam or not;
2. DialDim Controller
- more complex, more features, works with a harness, dimmer switch on the handle bar, and lots of wires to tap here, there and everywhere;
3. CANsmart
- device you plug to the bike's CANbus, sync to an app, and you can customise everything.
Note: I've reached out to Denali and Hex ezCAN and both replied saying they won't produce one for the XL750 anytime soon. I think they will in the future because the bike is becoming very popular.
Anyway, I just wanted the bike to perform as follows:
So I went for the DataDim solution.
Challenges I came across:
1. The bike's full beam is Ground Switched
2. Once I managed to make it work, when the fog lights were turned off from the dashboard, the full beam LED wasn't working
Troubleshooting:
1. To sync the full beam you'll need a 4 pin relay that is ground (-) activated, in order to provide the DataDim with a clear 12v signal. Denali has this, it's called Ground Switched Trigger Wizard. I didn't find one in stock, so I made my own with the provided relay on the harness, replaced with the DataDim Controller.
2. I couldn't work out why the full beam wasn't working with the fog lights off. Did all sorts of things to find out, it's beyond my skills. Ended up placing a diode between the full beam wire and the relay. Et voilĂ ! Sounds complicated, it's not.
